Agriculture
Agriculture is Lockyersleigh’s core business. Enterprises include:
- Meat production (Angus cattle and first cross lambs)
- Merino wool
- Grain production
Sheep and cattle have been raised since the Ranken family took over the property in 1856. Producing up to 8000 fat lambs and around 300 steers we are a great source for consitent quality meat purchases.
In conjunction with Lockyersleigh another property of similar size, Lerida, which is owned by the same family, produce a large quantity of agricultural produce which are readily available for purchase.
Landcare
Lockyersleigh’s management have adopted the Government’s Landcare Program. In conjunction with the local Billyrambija Landcare Group we can help to maintain the fragile ecosystems and the necessary balance for the ongoing operation of the property.
Landcare has allowed us to give something back to the land in various ways which include:
- Regeneration of river banks which help keep waterways clean.
- Planting of trees - improves soil stability, erosion, shelter for livestock, habitat for fauna and increased bird life.
- Erosion control – addressing silting up of rivers and waterways; adapting control measures through gully erosion projects in conjunction with Sydney Catchment Authority
Rural Consultancy
Lockyersleigh’s team boasts many years of rural production. We are actively involved in the industry and offer consulting services for those just starting out in the industry or those who are might be looking for an alternative approach to their business.
